Note to anyone interested, this is a foam wing airplane. This model was built prior to the rules for Q40 to becoming stable. A couple issues prevent this from being legal for modern Q40.

1. It doesn’t have the normal bent leading Edge (knee) at the root. In the early days we followed the lead of the old QM15 event and Jake had an RJ without this feature so I left them off.

2. Belly pan, this version doesn’t meet the 7/8” radius rule.

3. Because the belly isn’t the latest version I know this does not meet the 12.5 sq in cross section rule. We didn’t have a cross section rule in the first release of the rules. The second release was 11.5. The third made it 12.5.

Don Stegall has my molds for this airplane. I will see if I can get some pictures of the Belly Pan transition that caused the creation of new molds 3 times.

Edit: here are the pictures from Don. Looking at the Belly Pans, the left (gray) was the original, doesn’t meet the 7/8 radius rule. The middle was to meet the 7/8 rule but was only 11.5 sq in cross section. Lastly the green was the final version which meets the 12.5 rules. I (Jim Gager) made two fuselage molds 1st and last version of the belly pan. The middle version had a small add on part that you glued to the fuselage to meet the radius rule.

This little adventure brought back some very fond memories from that time.

A rule change occurred and made this version obsolete. Therefore, once legal always legal does not apply. It does not meet the current set of rules.

You can fly it all you want, have a blast. It will not be allowed to be used in competition. It is not legal. But have fun flying it. It is a great airplane!
